Week 30 – April 15 – April 21, 2012


Language Arts:
Nate continues to enjoy reading Hardy Boys books!  He watched Cars 2, MacGyver, Follow Me Boys, and Leave it to Beaver.  He has learned to spell many new words this week!  He practiced some words with Spelling City.  He did some Daily Grams.  He learned about Haiku Poetry and wrote some poems.

Math:
Nate watched the DVD for lessons 24, 25, and 26.  He did the lessons for 24 and 25 and started 26.  He is learning about algebra and LOVING it!

Science:
Nathan found a salamander and did research on his iPad to find out what kind of salamander it was.  


Social Studies:
Nate finished listening to The Savage River about Simon Fraser’s voyage on the river named after him!  It is amazing they survived the trip!  He did some mapwork and learned about Vancouver, Fraser, fur trade, BC and Klondike Gold Rushes, Confederation, the North West Mounted Police, A Railway for Canada, and the North West Rebellion.  He made a title page for his Book of Centuries with a photo of himself taken from a webcam.  He updated his Book of Centuries.  He worked on Canada Map Book 6.

Other stuff:

iPad:
Nate downloaded a new hunting game and is enjoying finding the critters in the bush.  He also played many other apps.

PE:
Nate spent LOTS of time outside.  We even did school outside one morning!  He rode his bike, walked, ran, stacked wood, and helped fix the fence.

Baking:
He baked some bread with me!  He made cinnamon buns all by himself!  They were awesome!




Bread Dough is sooooooooooooooooo much fun!!!! 

Daddy Day:
Nate enjoyed a day with dad while Wes, Sarah, and I went to Kamloops.  Sarah got her grad dress!!!!!  YIPPPPEEEE!!!  She looks so grown up and beautiful in it!! Nate helped feed a baby calf.

Week 29 – April 8, 2012 – April 14, 2012


Language Arts:
Nate, Sarah, and I read a poem called The Seasons and then we worked on a rhyming couplet poem together.  We did one funny verse for each of us.  We used the Scholastic Rhyming Dictionary.  He went to the library.  He watched some MacGyver episodes.
Math:
Lesson 23 – watched DVD and did the lessons.
Science:
Nate finished recording his mold experiment.  WOW!  Did that mold ever grow fast!
Nate did some research on the Hubble Space Telescope, the moon phases, and other interesting information about space using his iPad.
Nate heard an owl and a woodpecker.  He saw two butterflies.  We watched the snow melting and watching which way the water was flowing.   I think spring is coming!
Social Studies:
We enjoyed a turkey dinner together as a family to celebrate Easter.  And of course we had chocolate.
We did a lot of Canadian history again this week.  He finished listening to Captain of the Discovery.  He started listening to The Savage River about Simon Fraser exploring the river.
He learned about Alexander Mackenzie and did mapwork.  He added the information to his Book of Centuries.
Other Stuff:
Nate and I went on a quad ride in the mud to rescue dad and Sarah after the tractor broke down.
He helped make homemade turkey soup.
He went to Williams Lake and spend some time hanging out with his brother and sister while I went to a meeting.
iPad:
Science research, dictionary, games, flight simulator,
PE:
Nate rode his bike to the gravel pit and then enjoyed digging a “cave”.  And Nate went to his last swimming lesson for Red Cross Level 7…He passed!!!!  Congratulations, Nate!  You did an awesome job!

Week 28 – April 1, 2012 – April 7, 2012


Language Arts:
Nate continues to write many emails to his cousin, Makenna.  He is very conscious to spell the words he uses correctly.  He wrote a list of his summer plans complete with illustrations!  He did some Daily Grams.  He practices his spelling words with Spelling City.  He was able to access an additional feature this month which he is enjoying.  I think we will get a subscription to this in the fall.  He reads LOTS and continues to work his way through the Hardy Boys series.  He watched some DVDs including Tom and Jerry, Looney Tunes, and Homeward Bound II.  He went to the library and picked out some more DVDs and books.
Math:
Lesson 22 – watched DVD and did the lessons.
Science:
Nate is working on recording mold.  It is amazing how fast mold grow!  He is doing an excellent job recording the mold spreading and the detailed look of the mold. 
Social Studies:
Wow!  We covered a lot of information this week.  Nate learned about the American War of Independence and how it affected Canada, The Loyalists, Two Canada’s – Upper and Lower Canada.  He did mapwork to go along with this time period and coloured the original American flag with 13 stars and learned what original states these stars stood for.  Nate is reading an “I am Canada” series book called Blood and Iron about the building of the railway.  He is really enjoying it. 
Other Stuff:
April Fools’ Day!  We had some great tries at fooling each other today!
Nate cleaned his room!
Nate enjoyed Wednesday with his dad!  He even got to stay overnight at the cabin.  His mom and sister went to Williams Lake and got Nate 2 western shirts! 
iPad:
Nate really enjoys playing on his iPad.  He has some games that he really enjoys.  He also spends lots of time emailing his cousin, Makenna, in Abbotsford.  A great way to keep in touch! 
PE:
Nate is able to ride his bike now!  He went to the gravel pit on his bike and nearly fell into a puddle!  He enjoyed digging in the gravel pit where there is NO SNOW!  He chases the pigs to get them back in the pen.  He feeds the cattle with his dad.  He continued to stack wood.  And his favourite PE this week activity – swimming lessons!  Claire is very pleased with his front crawl.  Nathan is swimming faster and recording a faster time on his long swim!  Congratulations, Nate!!!!  You are working very diligently at learning to swim!
