Language Arts:
Nate did Spelling City and he
learned to spell many new words. He is
really enjoying having his own email account and emailing his cousin, Makenna. He asks how to spell words and is really using
his spelling skills. He ran out of Hardy
Boys books so he read Chocolate Fever and More Stories from Grandma’s
Attic. He did some Daily Grams. He does daily Bible Reading and prayer with
his family. He went to the library and
got some more Hardy Boys books. He also
got some I am Canada series books. He
watched some DVDs including Tom and Jerry’s Greatest Chases which caused a lot
of giggles.
Math:
Nate watched the DVD lessons
for 21 and 22 and did the lessons. He
learned about adding and subtracting fractions with whole numbers and
regrouping.
Science:
We went to Soulshine Ranch to pick up our new boar. He is so cute and friendly. The boys named him “Porky”. The big pigs kept chasing him around. He kept jumping and spinning and running. We laughed so hard!!!! The bluebirds are back. We also saw some swans at the 103! And the geese are honking all the time!!! It is great to hear them. Nate took a lock apart and learned about all the parts and how a lock works. Very interesting.
Social Studies:
We finished Frontenac and the
Iroquois and the French are in control of Canada. Nathan was wondering how Canada became mainly
English. I told him that is coming! He learned about La Venendrie, Captain Cook
and his voyages, sloops, Wolfe, Montcalm, the British taking control of Canada,
Henday, and Hearn. He did very neat
mapwork. He learned about explorers of
the Pacific Coast. He added many
pictures to his Book of Centuries. He
started listening to Captain of the Discovery and learned that Vancouver sailed
with Cook on two voyages. He also completed
pages 15 – 19 of Canada Map Book #6.
Other stuff:
Nathan helped me pack up some
homeschool books and resources and take them to the Homeschool Curriculum Swap
at Juanita’s. We also took some
homeschool books to the library where they are supposed to be setting up a
homeschool shelf for us.
iPad:
Nathan asked Kenna what her
favourite apps are. So…Nate downloaded
Temple Run and is really enjoying it. He
looks up maps and places on his iPad for Social Studies.
PE: Nathan was outside LOTS this week. He did his animal chores and helped his dad
feed the cattle. He went to swimming
lessons and shaved some time off his long swim!!! He did an awesome job on his front crawl this
week. And Nate enjoyed playing golf! Bullet (Sarah's dog) brings the balls back to Nate!
Photography:
Nathan took the photos of the pigs above. He also enjoyed taking photos of the geese.
